Truck Driver cover letter example

Hiring managers skim a truck driver cover letter for one thing: proof you can do this job, in their words. Below is a short letter that does exactly that. Replace the bracketed parts and the results with yours.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I'm applying for the Truck Driver role at [Company]. My background in one line: CDL Class A driver with 8 years and 900,000 accident-free miles in regional and long-haul freight.

Two results from my last roles that match what you're asking for:
- Drove 900,000+ accident-free miles over 8 years.
- Maintained 99% on-time delivery across 2,500+ loads.

I also passed 14 DOT roadside inspections with zero violations. Day to day I work with CDL Class A, Hazmat endorsement, ELD logs and Pre-trip inspection, which your posting lists among the core requirements.

I'd welcome a short call to walk through how I'd approach [a priority from the job ad] in the first 90 days.

Best regards,
Mike Torres

Why this letter works

It is short. Under 200 words: it gets read to the end.
Results, not duties. Both proof points carry a number a recruiter can repeat to the team.
It mirrors the posting. CDL Class A, Hazmat endorsement, ELD logs, Pre-trip inspection are the words truck driver ads use; swap in the exact terms from yours.
It asks for a next step tied to their priorities, not a generic "hope to hear from you".

Mistakes that get truck driver cover letters skipped

Repeating the resume line by line instead of picking the two results that fit this job.
"I am a hard-working team player": claims without evidence are ignored.
One letter for every application. The ATS and the recruiter both notice.
