WAHIS coverage is worldwide — every WOAH member country reports through it — so an empty result after a successful address match means no avian-flu outbreak was reported near there recently, not a coverage gap.
What this number means
AviRisk pulls every currently-listed avian-influenza event from WAHIS (WOAH's official outbreak database, the same one national veterinary authorities feed), keeps the ones whose reported disease name matches high-pathogenicity avian influenza, and resolves each one to a real reported latitude/longitude. For the address you search, it scores every outbreak within 300km by how close and how recent it is, and adds the scores up into one 0–100 index.
Limits, stated first. The risk index is our own heuristic
(proximity × recency, decaying linearly to zero at 300km and at 12 months) — it is not an
epidemiological model, does not account for wind, waterfowl flyways, or farm biosecurity,
and is not affiliated with WOAH. Outbreak coordinates come from WAHIS's own
locationApprox reported location (often a town or district center, not a GPS
pin on the farm). The disease filter matches on the text WOAH itself assigns to each event;
a small share of borderline classifications (mixed non-poultry/poultry wording) could be
missed or double-counted. Treat this as an early-warning signal to check the primary source,
not a certified risk score.
