What this number means
Every EU ETS installation has a pressurePercentile: its rank, within its own NACE sector, on the ratio of verified emissions to freely allocated allowances for 2023 (the latest year with verified data reported) — 0 = deep within its free allowance, 100 = had to buy the most extra allowances on the carbon market relative to sector peers. The percentile is computed inside each sector, never across sectors: EU policy hands out free allowances very differently by sector (power plants get almost none by design, heavy industry gets generous allocations to avoid carbon leakage), so a raw national ranking would mostly measure allocation policy, not actual carbon-market pressure — verified on this dataset: before the sector split, every power plant nationally clustered at the top regardless of how it actually performed. The AreaCarbonScore shown here is a distance-weighted average of every such installation within the search radius: closer installations count more (weight = 1 / distance²).
Limits, stated first. Only installations covered by the EU ETS — large power and industrial sites — not every polluting facility. Sectors with fewer than 5 comparable installations are excluded (percentile not meaningful on that small a sample). Only 31.7% of installations carry a direct Legal Entity Identifier in this dataset; the rest would need a GLEIF name-match to resolve to a corporate group (not yet done — shown as "—" here). The underlying registry data is a periodic bulk export, not a live feed — the generation date is shown above.
