How much environmental pressure
surrounds this address?

The EPA tracks inspections, violations and penalties for every major regulated facility in the US — Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA hazardous waste. It's public. Nobody turns it into one comparable number for an address — until now.

What this number means

Every major EPA-regulated facility has a pressurePercentile: the average of its national percentile rank on two measures — quarters out of compliance, and total penalties assessed — among all 21,727 active major facilities in the US (0 = cleanest, 100 = most enforcement pressure nationally). The AreaPressureScore shown here is a distance-weighted average of every such facility within the search radius: closer facilities count more (weight = 1 / distance²), so one heavily-violating facility right next door moves the number far more than a clean one three miles out.

Limits, stated first. This only covers facilities EPA classifies as "major" — the largest known sources — not every permitted site; a genuinely polluted area with only minor/small sources can show a low score simply because nothing major is nearby. US only. The percentile is computed on facility-level aggregates (quarters-with-noncompliance, total penalties), not real-time emissions or air-quality readings. The underlying dataset is EPA's periodic bulk export — the generation date is shown above; it is not updated on every request.
