From zip to your first published translation in about 10 minutes: install the full version, create an API key with the AI provider you prefer, translate one post into a draft you review, then let bulk and automatic translation do the rest. You pay the provider directly, usually a fraction of a cent per post; there is no subscription with us.
ai-translate-byok.zip from the link in your purchase email (the same link always gives you the latest version).Your license key is already inside the zip, so there is nothing to type. You can see it under Settings > AI Translate BYOK > Updates > License key ("Included in your download"). It turns on the full-version features and brings new versions to the normal Plugins > Updates screen. Paste the key from your email there only if you installed a zip downloaded somewhere else.
The plugin talks to the provider with your own key, so you choose quality and price. Any of these
works; if you have no preference, start with OpenAI gpt-4o-mini: cheap and good in all
major languages.
| Provider | Where to create the key | Default model |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | platform.openai.com/api-keys (add a few dollars of credit under Billing) | gpt-4o-mini |
| Anthropic (Claude) | console.anthropic.com/settings/keys (prepaid credits) | claude-haiku-4-5 |
| Google Gemini | aistudio.google.com/apikey | gemini-3.5-flash-lite |
| OpenRouter (one key, hundreds of models) | openrouter.ai/keys | openai/gpt-4o-mini |
| DeepSeek | platform.deepseek.com/api_keys | deepseek-flash |
| Groq, Mistral | Their consoles (API keys section) | openai/gpt-oss-120b, mistral-small-latest |
| Ollama (runs on your own server, free) | No key needed | qwen2.5 |
Copy the key right away: most providers show it only once. Treat it like a password. It is stored in your WordPress database and sent only to the provider you picked.
Activation opens Settings > AI Translate BYOK by itself. There:
Checkout = Kasse forces a translation; a term alone (your brand name) is never translated./de/your-slug/, /fr/…, with the right <html lang> and one sitemap per language. Old plain links redirect (301).x-default. Nothing to set.[aitr_languages] in a widget or template.Check it: open a translated page, view source, and look for
rel="alternate" hreflang. In Google Search Console the language versions show up as
the pages get crawled.
The editor box estimates every translation before you click (about 4 characters per token). With the default models, a typical 1,500-word post costs:
| Model | Price (USD per 1M tokens, in / out) | One 1,500-word post | 100 posts × 5 languages |
|---|---|---|---|
gpt-4o-mini | 0.15 / 0.60 | about $0.002 | about $1 |
deepseek-flash | 0.30 / 1.20 | about $0.004 | about $2 |
claude-haiku-4-5 | 1.00 / 5.00 | about $0.014 | about $7 |
| Ollama on your server | free | $0 | $0 |
Re-translating after an update costs the same as one translation of that post. Using a model that isn't in the plugin's price table? Enter its prices in Model price (USD per 1M tokens) to see exact estimates. A subscription translation plugin charges this much every month; here it is the whole bill.
Once the first draft looks right, tick your languages for automatic translation and forget about it. The free version translates one post at a time; the full version adds bulk and automatic translation, glossary, per-language URLs, WooCommerce, Elementor and menus for $27.99 once.
