Image Alt Text by RS WebStudios (10,000+ active installs) and Alt Text BYOK share the same idea: you bring your own AI key and pay your provider, not the plugin, per image. The difference is what you get for free and how the paid part is billed.
| Image Alt Text | Alt Text BYOK | |
|---|---|---|
| AI in the free version | No: the free version copies title or file name into ALT | Yes, unlimited, single or bulk |
| Paid | Pro yearly: $14.99 (1 site), $29.99 (5 sites), $49.99 (15 sites) | $24.99 once |
| Cost of 1,000 images | Licence plus your provider's cost | Your provider bills you directly. With OpenAI list prices (September 2026) that is roughly $0.30–$4 per 1,000 images depending on the model and image size, and $0 on a provider's free tier (the plugin waits and retries on free-tier rate limits). |
| Providers | OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Hugging Face | OpenAI or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (OpenRouter, local servers, free tiers) |
| Extras | See their Pro page | ALT on upload, WP-CLI command, WooCommerce product context (full version) |
If you want native Claude or Gemini support without an OpenAI-compatible gateway, or you only need one site for one year, their Starter licence is cheaper up front.
If you want to try AI alt text before paying anything, or you'd rather pay once than every year, the free build already does the core job and the full version never renews.
A WordPress plugin that finds every Media Library image without ALT text and writes it with a
vision model you choose: OpenAI or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, with your own API key. Images go
from your site straight to your provider; nothing passes through a server of ours. The free build on
wordpress.org has no image limit (one image at a time or bulk). The full version, a one-time
$24.99, adds ALT text written automatically on upload, a wp alt-text generate WP-CLI
command, base64 sending for local or password-protected sites, and WooCommerce product context.
