Bulk Order Notifications for WA vs Click to Chat

Click to Chat is the most installed WhatsApp plugin on wordpress.org (600,000+ sites) and it does its job well: a WhatsApp button on your site that opens a chat with your number, with a prefilled message. It never sends anything itself and costs nothing per message, because the customer starts the conversation from their own phone. Bulk Order Notifications for WA goes the other way: your store sends the message, automatically, when an order changes status.

Cost of 1,000 utility messages a month

Click to Chat can't send them, so the fair comparison is the job itself. Messages a customer starts through the button, and your replies within 24 hours, are handled in your WhatsApp app; order updates sent by your store are template messages billed by Meta.

When Click to Chat is the better pick

If you only want customers to reach you on WhatsApp, a button is all you need: free, no API account, no templates, no per-message cost.

When Bulk Order Notifications for WA is the better pick

If you want customers to hear from you: "order received", "shipped", "your cart is waiting", without typing each message. Many stores run both: the button for questions, Bulk Order Notifications for WA for updates.

FAQ

Can I use both plugins together?
Yes, they don't overlap. Note that a Cloud API number can't also be used in the regular WhatsApp app, so the button usually points to a separate number, or to the API number if replies are handled by your webhook.
Why can't I just send order updates from the WhatsApp Business app?
The app has no API: every message is typed or sent by hand. Automatic messages need the WhatsApp Business Platform.
How hard is the API setup?
An afternoon if you already have a Meta Business account. The setup guide covers every step.

What Bulk Order Notifications for WA is

A WordPress plugin that sends WhatsApp Business template messages on every WooCommerce order status change, plus bulk sends to a pasted number list, through your own Meta WhatsApp Cloud API account. Meta bills you its per-message rate directly; the plugin adds nothing per message and nothing per month. Opt-in at checkout (classic and block checkout) is on by default, and customers who reply STOP are suppressed automatically. The free wordpress.org build has no sending cap; the full version, $39 once, adds WooCommerce customer segments, scheduled sends, abandoned-cart reminders and CSV export.

Still clicking by hand? Start with the free button.

If you message customers from the WooCommerce order list one by one, the free WhatsApp Order Button extension puts a WhatsApp button on every order with the message prefilled for its status. No account, no key.
