earth · one frame a day from orbit
From orbit
The whole planet as photographed by satellite on a single day: a daily corrected-reflectance mosaic, not a drawn basemap.
What it shows
The whole planet as photographed by satellite on a single day: a daily corrected-reflectance mosaic, not a drawn basemap. A date scrubber goes back through the archive, which starts in 2012. A second band combination shows snow and fire.
Where the data comes from
NASA EOSDIS GIBS, VIIRS on Suomi NPP corrected reflectance (true colour and bands M11-I2-I1); one mosaic per day, shown for yesterday by default.
Reading the map
True colour is what the eye would see from orbit. In the snow and fire infrared view ice is cyan, burnt ground red and cloud white.
Units Imagery (no measured quantity).
