Where the data comes from
NOAA Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) pilot reports of light or worse turbulence or icing, last 3 hours, refreshed every 5 minutes.
Reading the map
Dot colour is the worst reported intensity, green (light) through amber (moderate) and red (severe) to purple (extreme). A blue ring marks an icing report.
Units Flight level (FL, hundreds of feet); intensity as reported: light, moderate, severe, extreme.
