What it shows

The aviation weather warnings in force right now, as polygons: every SIGMET issued in the world (thunderstorms, severe turbulence, severe icing, mountain waves, volcanic ash, tropical cyclones) and, over the United States, the G-AIRMET forecast of moderate turbulence, icing, low ceilings and obscured mountains. Each area shows its altitude band and how long it is valid, with the original bulletin. Situational awareness, not an official briefing.

Where the data comes from

NOAA Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov): US and international SIGMETs and G-AIRMETs, refreshed every 5 minutes.

Colour is the hazard: red thunderstorms, magenta tropical cyclones, purple volcanic ash, amber turbulence, blue icing, grey low ceiling and visibility. Solid outlines are SIGMETs in force, dashed ones US G-AIRMET forecasts.

Units Altitude band in flight levels (FL, hundreds of feet) or feet above sea level; validity in UTC.
