What it shows

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) as a continuous field rather than a dot per monitoring station. The colour scale turns at the WHO 2021 24-hour guideline of 15 µg/m³, not at any national index. The readout also gives the European Air Quality Index.

Where the data comes from

NOAA GEFS-Aerosols model (public domain), daily 00Z run, total PM2.5 baked into a 2° grid from 24 h ago to 48 h ahead; the European index shown is the PM2.5 sub-index only (EEA bands).

Reading the map

Teal and green below the WHO guideline, yellow at 15 µg/m³, then orange (35), red (55) and purple (110 and above).

Units PM2.5 in micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³).
