Where the data comes from
NOAA WaveWatch III global wave model (public domain), averaged over the sea in each 2° cell, 24 h ago to 48 h ahead.
Reading the map
Blues for calm seas under about 1.25 m, yellow from 2.5 m, orange at 4 m (ports start closing), red at 6 m and purple at 9 m and above.
Units Wave height in metres; period in seconds.
