What it shows

Mean sea-level air pressure as a field, which shows where the highs and lows are. The colour change sits at the standard atmosphere, 1013 hPa. The readout also gives the pressure at the surface.

Where the data comes from

NOAA GFS 0.25° global model (public domain), baked on our server every hour into a 2° grid from 24 h ago to 48 h ahead; values between grid points are interpolated.

Reading the map

Below 1013 hPa the colour cools toward blue and purple (lows, 975 hPa and under); above it warms toward amber and red (highs, 1048 hPa and over).
