Where the data comes from

Derived from NOAA GFS (public domain): clear-sky UV from sun elevation and GFS total ozone, cut by GFS cloud through the solar radiation deficit; 2° grid, 24 h ago to 48 h ahead.

Reading the map

The colour changes at the WHO bands: protection needed from 3, high from 6, very high from 8 (unprotected skin burns in under 20 minutes), extreme at 11 and above.
